Dr. Doris Taylor is an American scientist, a dynamic innovator, an entrepreneur, and a global thought leader in regenerative medicine. For nearly a decade she was the Director of Regenerative Medicine Research and Cell and Organ Biotechnology at the Texas Heart Institute (THI) in Houston. At THI Dr. Taylor led a team who are recognized for creating the huge breakthroughs in science and technology required to build a “personalized human heart.” Using the process of tissue engineering they did something never done before, developing the complex process of growing from one cell to the billions of distinct cells required to make a working heart.
She has published over 180 papers, holds more than 30 patents, and is the founder of multiple companies. She has held academic positions for over 25 years and recently founded RegenMedix Consulting LLC to enable academic and commercial enterprises in the regenerative medicine space. She was nominated as one of “100 Most Influential People in the World” by TIME magazine for her unique decellularization method.
Dr. Taylor earned her B.S. from Mississippi University for Women in Biology and Physical Sciences and earned her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. She did her post – doctoral studies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, where she first worked wit h tissue engineering, growing heart muscle cells in the laboratory
