Katherine E. Liu began her musical journey at the age of three with her mother Dr. Huang, a music educator. Only a year later, Katherine performed publicly at Boston’s Steinway Hall. She has taken top honors in numerous piano competitions since then. At the age of 9, Katherine won both Steinway Society Piano competition and Bay State Piano Competition. In the same year, she made her first appearance at Boston Symphony Hall for the Cartoon Festival. She also had the privilege of performing at a benefit concert organized by Massachusetts General Hospital, and was invited to perform at the Inaugural Concert Series in Burlington. Katherine has been featured on WCRB 99.5 with Mrs. Cathy Fuller, and performed at Fraser Performance Studio.
Katherine made her Carnegie debut at the age of 10. That same year, she also won the Grand Prix for the VI Chopin International Piano Competition in Connecticut. As a winner of American Protege and the Concord Youth Artist Concerto Competition, she was invited to attend a Music Festival in Poland and was given the opportunity to perform a solo recital at the Performing Arts Center in Concord, Massachusetts.Throughout the year Katherine participated in several YouTube video productions by the popular NPR program, From the Top, including the hit Star Wars Mashup (as Princess Leia).
Katherine first appeared on NPR’s From the Top at age 11, with host Christopher O’Riley at Jordan Hall. She has also performed at the From the Top Gala at MIT Media Lab, Story Gathering Conference at CMA Theater in Nashville and the E.G. Conference in Carmel, California. A 12-year-old, at the time she performed at Imagine Solutions, living in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Katherine is currently a student of Ms. Dorothy Shi, and also enjoys dancing at Walnut Hill Community Dance Academy. In her free time, she loves to read, swim and solve math problems.
